Uncontested Victory in PP-167 is Undemocratic and Unconstitutional: Jamaat-e-Islami Challenges Notification

Lahore: Ziauddin Ansari, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore, while speaking to the media outside the Punjab Election Commission office, stated that the uncontested victory of the PML-N candidate in PP-167 is undemocratic and unconstitutional, and Jamaat-e-Islami rejects it.He informed that today the controversial notification has been legally challenged at the Punjab Election Commission. Present on the occasion were Jamaat-e-Islami’s PP-167 candidate Chaudhry Abdul Qayyum Gujar, Secretary General Azhar Bilal, Deputy Secretaries Abdul Aziz Abid and Qaiser Sharif, President of the Public Aid Committee Waqas Ahmed Butt, Ameer of Lahore South District Abdul Rasheed Mirza, and other party workers.Advocate Ziauddin Ansari alleged that the Returning Officer, following instructions from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, forcibly prevented Jamaat-e-Islami and other candidates, and our candidate and lawyer were abducted, which constitutes blatant rigging.The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore strongly condemned the authoritarian behavior of the Chief Minister, stating that such biased and controversial actions in PP-167 by-elections are unacceptable. He demanded that the Election Commission immediately annul the notification and issue a new schedule for the by-elections in PP-167 after appointing a new Returning Officer.He further emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami is fully present on the field and will actively oppose all forms of authoritarianism and tyranny. All political parties should be provided a level playing field, ensuring the public in PP-167 can exercise their voting rights in a fair and transparent environment.
