Jamaat-e-Islami launches public referendum against Local Government Act 2025 across Lahore



Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Ziauddin Ansari Advocate formally inaugurated the public referendum at the polling camp in Lahore High Court by casting his vote.
Lahore:Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore has launched a public referendum against the Local Government Act 2025, which will continue until January 18, 2026. The referendum was formally inaugurated by Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore, Advocate Zia-ud-Din Ansari, at a polling camp in Lahore High Court, where he also cast his vote. The inauguration was attended by prominent figures including President Lahore High Court Bar Malik Asif Ahmed Niswana, former President Shafqat Mahmood Chauhan, President Islamic Lawyers Movement Kaleem Javed, Mian Zia-ul-Hassan Advocate, and Deputy Secretaries Qaiser Sharif and Shahid Naveed Malik, all of whom supported the referendum and participated in voting. Across Lahore, 300 polling camp locations have been established, with men, women, and children actively participating, and voting will continue until 5:00 PM. Advocate Ansari stated that this referendum is a decisive expression of citizens’ opinions, urging every resident to participate fully to ensure local representation. Key polling locations include Multan Road, Mansoorah Bazaar, Model Bazaar, Wahdat Colony, Mehlanwal, Waris Colony, Islamia Park, Jinnah Colony, Barkat Town, Bilal Town, Raiwind, Shalimar Colony, College Road, and other prominent areas. He emphasized that the referendum is not for any single political party but represents a citizen-led effort to protect local governance and democracy.
