Termination of Net Metering Policy is Anti-Public Decision, Must Be Reversed: Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Zia-ud-Din Ansari Advocate

Lahore (UMAR HAYAT CH) The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Zia-ud-Din Ansari Advocate has strongly condemned the government’s decision to terminate the net metering policy for solar systems, calling it an anti-public move that must be immediately reversed. He stated that the proposed reduction under the net metering framework and the new policy would discourage solar users. The government intends to purchase electricity above 40 units at Rs. 11 per unit, which is unjust to the public. Such measures will not only cause financial losses to solar consumers but will also undermine the country’s renewable energy targets.Zia-ud-Din Ansari further emphasized that citizens have invested millions of rupees in solar systems due to high electricity costs and persistent load-shedding. The government’s unilateral decision is, therefore, tantamount to public disservice. The Ameer urged the government to avoid public-unfriendly policies and implement net metering at a uniform rate with transparency and stability. He warned that unilateral decisions regarding solar policy would weaken investor confidence and impede efforts to address the energy crisis. He also highlighted that while renewable energy is being promoted worldwide, such measures in Pakistan are deeply concerning. He called on the government to stabilize and make the net metering policy transparent to restore the confidence of solar users and investors, ensuring the advancement of green energy objectives across the country.
