Tragic Loss of Lives During Basant Reflects Government Negligence.

Lahore: Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Advocate Ziauddin Ansari has expressed deep sorrow and anger over the deaths of young people and children, and the injuries sustained by dozens of others during the Basant festival. He stated that the Punjab government, particularly Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is responsible for allowing such life-threatening activities under the guise of celebration.According to media reports, over the three-day Basant festival, 7 people lost their lives and more than 100 were injured, many due to fatal kite string accidents and falls from rooftops. These figures contradict government claims that the festival was conducted safely and successfully.Advocate Ansari emphasized that allowing such dangerous activities in the name of Basant has created an atmosphere of mourning in hundreds of households. Seven families lost their loved ones, while dozens were left permanently disabled. However, while the government publicly celebrated the festival, no relief packages or official accountability were provided to the affected families. He further stated Any activity or pastime that leads to loss of life or the death of innocent children cannot be considered entertainment or culture. Promoting dancing, obscenity, and life-threatening activities in the name of culture is deplorable and condemnable. A complete and permanent ban on such hazardous activities must be imposed in the future.
