Jamaat-e-Islami Threatens City-Wide Protest if Civil Issues Remain Unresolved

LAHORE: The Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Lahore, Ziauddin Ansari Advocate, has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating state of the provincial capital, stating that due to the government’s incompetence, flawed planning, and persistent neglect, Lahore has rapidly transformed into a land of problems. Addressing a press conference at the Syed Maududi Islamic Center alongside Secretary General Azhar Bilal, President Public Aid Committee Qaiser Sharif, and other senior officials, Ansari highlighted that citizens are being deprived of basic facilities while facing life-threatening hazards. He pointed out that the alarming increase in stray dogs in streets and neighborhoods has become a severe threat to residents, especially children. He cited the tragic death of a young girl on Eid-ul-Fitr as a direct consequence of governmental negligence. Furthermore, he condemned the administrative failure regarding open manholes, which recently claimed another innocent child’s life. The JI leader also lashed out at the Traffic Police for imposing heavy fines and “unjustified” challans, alleging that the public is being burdened simply to meet multi-billion rupee revenue targets. Ansari criticized the “Two Lahores” policy, where development is limited to a few specific boulevards to give a false impression of progress while the rest of the city suffers from poor sanitation, heaps of garbage, and a crumbling sewerage system. He demanded that the government initiate an immediate operation against stray dogs, seal all open manholes, fix hazardous hanging electrical wires, and make the traffic police “citizen-friendly.” He warned that if practical steps are not taken immediately to address these public grievances, Jamaat-e-Islami will launch a massive protest movement to protect the rights of the citizens of Lahore.
