Government Must End Inflation, Unemployment and Oppressive Taxes in Electricity and Gas Bills
The Government’s Decision is Mockery of Public Hardships Instead of Real Relief
Lahore: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Ziauddin Ansari has said that the announcement of only one paisa reduction per unit in electricity prices for people already crushed under severe inflation is nothing but a cruel joke and an insult to public sentiments. He said the government’s move is not real relief but rather a mockery of the hardships faced by the masses.He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore office bearers. The meeting was attended by Deputy Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Khalid Ahmed Butt, Chaudhry Muhammad Shaukat, President Public Aid Committee Lahore Qaiser Sharif, Secretary Shahid Naveed Malik, Ameer North District Usman Afzal and Convener Housing Societies Public Aid Committee Ahmed Salman Baloch along with other officials.Ziauddin Ansari Advocate stated that the government has already made life miserable for the public through inflation, unemployment, excessive taxation and failed policies. Overcharging in electricity, gas and other utility bills has pushed citizens into severe financial distress, forcing many people to sell household items just to pay their bills.He further said that lockdown policies have devastated small traders and businesses. Unnecessary restrictions on business hours are increasing unemployment, while alleged corruption and extortion by para force officials have raised serious questions about the government’s claims of good governance.He demanded that the Chief Minister of Punjab should take practical measures instead of making symbolic announcements, immediately end unnecessary lockdown restrictions, withdraw the garbage tax, stop overbilling in electricity bills and ensure accountability of corrupt elements within the para force.The Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore emphasized that the government must take serious steps to provide real relief to the people by controlling inflation, creating employment opportunities and abolishing the oppressive taxation system.
