The public referendum is a struggle for the people’s right to rule and the protection of local democracy.


Every citizen, students, lawyers, business community and civil society will participate in the referendum without any discrimination.
The Punjab government wants horse trading to start in the streets after the Senate.
Jamaat-e-Islami will not accept this anti-people law under any circumstances, the struggle will continue.
Preparations for the public referendum of Jamaat-e-Islami are complete, it will be held from January 15 to 18 in Lahore and across Punjab.

Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Ziauddin Ansari Advocate announced in a press conference at the Syed Modoodi Institute that all preparations for the public referendum against the black law of the Local Government Act have been completed. This referendum will be held from 15th to 18th January 2026 across Lahore and throughout Punjab.Ziauddin Ansari Advocate stated that this referendum is not limited to any single political party, but represents a struggle to safeguard the people’s right to govern and protect local democracy. He warned that the Punjab government aims to extend horse-trading from the Senate to local neighborhoods, but Jamaat-e-Islami will never accept this anti-people law and will continue its struggle until justice is ensured.The Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore urged the public to come out of their homes and actively participate, so that the government receives a clear message that the people reject laws imposed against their will.He further stated that the current Local Government Act is a blatant attack on citizens’ right to representation and a deliberate attempt to paralyze local governments. Jamaat-e-Islami will continue its struggle until the government enacts a law acceptable to all citizens.For the public referendum, a large number of ballot boxes have been prepared, and polling stations will be established at major intersections, markets, and busy public areas across the province to facilitate maximum participation. Special arrangements have been made to ensure women’s participation, including separate polling points and services of volunteer women staff.Ziauddin Ansari Advocate emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami will continue its constitutional, democratic, and peaceful struggle until people’s issues are addressed, empowered local governments are established, and genuine democracy is ensured.The press conference was attended by Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Azhar Bilal, Deputy Amir Chaudhry Muhammad Shaukat, Convener of the Public Aid Committee Qaiser Sharif, and PP-167 candidate Chaudhry Abdul Qayyum Gujar.
