Basant Should Be Restricted to Open Grounds; Turning It into a Bloody Game in Residential Areas Is Unacceptable: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Zia-ud-Din Ansari, Advocate

Lahore: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Zia-ud-Din Ansari Advocate has expressed serious reservations over the Punjab Government’s preparations for celebrating Basant, stating that Jamaat-e-Islami is not opposed to cultural festivals, but turning Basant into a deadly activity is unacceptable. He said that holding Basant in densely populated residential areas poses serious threats to human lives. Jamaat-e-Islami has grave concerns over the government’s current arrangements. Basant should strictly be confined to open and designated grounds so that the safety of citizens and their property can be ensured. The Ameer Lahore pointed out that in the past, precious human lives have been lost due to the use of dangerous metallic kite strings and uncontrolled kite flying, which cannot be ignored under any circumstances. Kite flying near electricity lines in residential areas continues to be a major cause of fatal accidents. He categorically stated that in case of any loss of life during Basant, the Commissioner Lahore, Deputy Commissioner Lahore, and other concerned authorities will be held fully responsible. Organizing Basant without effective safety measures and a clear policy is tantamount to playing with the lives of citizens. Ziauddin Ansari Advocate announced that Jamaat-e-Islami will approach the court within the next one to two days to ensure the protection of citizens. The legal action will seek an effective ban on hazardous metallic strings, kite flying near electricity wires, and the celebration of Basant in densely populated areas.
