Despite Record Loans, Government Fails to Provide Relief; Immediate Action Against Hoarders and Profiteers Demanded.
Lahore: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore Zia ud Din Ansari Advocate, has stated that despite securing record domestic and international loans, the government has completely failed to control inflation. He said that during the holy month of Ramadan, skyrocketing prices have broken the backbone of the poor and middle-income segments of society.Addressing a press conference at Syed Maududi Islamic Centre, he highlighted that the prices of essential commodities—including chicken, vegetables, pulses, potatoes, and fruits—have moved beyond the purchasing power of the common man. He added that official claims of economic stability sharply contradict ground realities, as citizens continue to struggle for basic necessities.Mr. Ansari criticized the government for acquiring billions of dollars in loans from international financial institutions without translating them into tangible public relief. He questioned the priorities of the Punjab government, stating that while an aircraft worth Rs. 11 billion has reportedly been purchased, the public remains deprived of basic facilities and meaningful economic relief. He termed the Ramadan relief package insufficient and ineffective, noting that essential items are either unavailable at designated Ramadan bazaars or not being sold at officially notified rates. This, he said, raises serious concerns about governance and administrative oversight. The Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore demanded immediate and indiscriminate action against profiteers, hoarders, and price manipulators. He called upon the district administration to enforce a strict and transparent price control mechanism during Ramadan to ensure real relief for citizens. He further urged the government to move beyond statements and symbolic measures and adopt serious, coordinated, and result-oriented policy interventions. Addressing rising inflation, unemployment, and public hardship requires a comprehensive and practical strategy, he emphasized.Mr. Ansari reaffirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami will continue to raise its voice against inflation, unemployment, and public exploitation, and will pursue all constitutional and democratic avenues to safeguard the rights of the people.
