Lahore: The Information Department of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore has stated that the country’s worsening energy crisis can only be resolved through the immediate termination of one-sided and costly agreements with Independent Power Producers IPPs. The increasing trend of solarisation across the country is, according to the party, a direct outcome of government inefficiency and unbearable electricity tariffs. The statement was issued by the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Lahore, Ziauddin Ansari Advocate, who expressed deep concern over the ongoing power sector crisis while addressing various public and organizational gatherings in the provincial capital. He stated that the current structure of the power sector reflects poor governance, mismanagement, and flawed planning, which has pushed the national economy and ordinary citizens into severe hardship. He stressed that maintaining exploitative IPP contracts is no longer in the national interest and is draining the national exchequer.Highlighting the growing shift toward solar energy, he said it is a clear reaction to rising electricity tariffs, heavy taxation, and unsustainable energy policies. He added that the public is being forced toward alternative energy solutions due to the failure of the state to provide affordable electricity. He further noted that inflation, rising fuel and gas prices, unemployment, and recent “smart lockdown” measures have paralyzed economic activity across all sectors. From small traders to industrial stakeholders, every productive segment of society is reportedly under severe financial pressure.Criticizing development claims, he said that government projects remain limited to advertisements and ribbon-cutting ceremonies, while ground realities reflect zero meaningful progress. He added that the system has made basic necessities like healthcare and education increasingly inaccessible for the common man, while even two meals a day have become difficult for many households.Demanding immediate policy action, he urged the government to prioritize the operationalization of the Pakistan-Iran Gas Pipeline project without delay and to initiate diplomatic and construction work on an urgent basis. He questioned what diplomatic or political constraints are preventing Pakistan from securing affordable petroleum and energy resources from neighboring Iran and other friendly countries, despite purchasing expensive fuel from distant markets.Regarding the upcoming federal budget 2026, he warned that if meaningful relief is not provided to the poor, middle class, and business community, Jamaat-e-Islami will lead a public movement in defense of citizens’ rights. He appealed to the people of Pakistan to support the leadership of Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman and become part of the party’s nationwide struggle for justice and economic relief. He reaffirmed that Jamaat-e-Islami will continue its peaceful and democratic struggle for real justice, merit, and constitutional rights of the common man without compromise.
