LAHORE (Umar Hayat CH): A high-powered and strategic meeting of the Political Committee of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Lahore was held at the Syed Maududi Islamic Centre, Lytton Road. The session was presided over by Khalid Ahmed Butt, President of the Political Committee Lahore. The meeting was significantly attended by Naib Ameer JI Pakistan Liaqat Baloch and Ameer JI Lahore Zia-ud-Din Ansari Advocate. Special Advisor to JI Pakistan, Dr. Farid Ahmad Paracha, also graced the occasion and delivered an in-depth briefing on the prevailing political and macroeconomic landscape of the country, presenting a comprehensive roadmap for future political action. The meeting saw a robust attendance of senior leadership, including Vice President of the Political Committee Ch. Zulfiqar Ali Advocate, Secretary Aamir Nisar Khan, alongside prominent central and provincial leaders Qaiser Sharif, Mian Zikrullah Mujahid, Shoaib Yaqoob, Adnan Chatta, Jibran Butt, Shahid Naveed Malik, Ahmad Salman Baloch, Tariq Altaf Tipu, Zahid Shabab Butt, Abdul Hameed Gujjar, Zubair Siddiqui, and Malik Ilyas. Other key political committee members present included Azhar Bilal, Malik Shahid Aslam, Ch. Muhammad Shaukat, Malik Munir Ahmed, Ch. Zahoor Ahmed Wattoo, Ch. Abdul Qayyum Gujjar, and Saif-ur-Rehman. During the session, the committee meticulously reviewed JI’s political activities, organizational infrastructure, and public outreach across the provincial capital. Special focus was dedicated to the upcoming local government elections. The leadership unanimously resolved that, unlike traditional corrupt political entities, Jamaat-e-Islami will offer a clean, dedicated, and highly educated leadership to the residents of Lahore to genuinely transform the city’s municipal and civic landscape. Furthermore, expressing satisfaction over the progress of the ongoing “Badal Do Nizam” (Change the System) membership drive, the committee drafted a micro-level strategy to further accelerate the campaign at the grassroots and union council levels. Addressing the participants, Ameer JI Lahore Zia-ud-Din Ansari Advocate launched a scathing critique against the economic policies of the incumbent federal and provincial governments. He stated that the proposed fiscal budget severely lacks relief measures for the common man, reducing lower-income families to a state of absolute misery. “If the government does not alter its trajectory and fails to provide direct relief in this budget, Jamaat-e-Islami will launch a historic public movement on the call of central chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman,” Ansari warned. He explicitly noted that all constitutional and political avenues—including massive sit-ins, sieges of government offices, and a nationwide wheel-jam strike—remain actively on the table. In a unanimously adopted joint resolution, the Political Committee condemned the rising tide of inflation, unemployment, and anti-poor economic structural adjustments, formally demanding the following immediate interventions from the state: The unjust Rs. 120 per liter petroleum levy must be completely withdrawn, and benefits of global oil price drops must be directly transferred to the public. Drastic reduction in electricity and gas tariffs by removing heavy unearned taxes that place an unbearable burden on domestic consumers. The heavily-burdened salaried class and low-income individuals must be protected and excluded from the aggressive tax net, shifting the tax burden instead onto elite classes. Concluding the meeting, the leadership reiterated that Jamaat-e-Islami stands as the vanguard of public rights. Every worker and office-bearer in Lahore is fully prepared to hit the streets at a moment’s notice upon the call of central Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman to safeguard the socio-economic rights of the citizens.
